📖 Commentary of Surah Hud – Verse 43

"He said, 'I will take refuge on a mountain; it will save me from the water' [92]. Nuh said, 'Today there is no protector from the command of Allah except for him on whom He has mercy.' And the wave came between them, so he was among the drowned [93]."

✅ [92] The Son’s Attempt to Escape

Before the floodwaters overtook everything, Hazrat Nuh’s son tried to take refuge on a mountain, believing it would protect him from the impending flood. This was his misguided attempt to escape the flood, showing his refusal to accept the divine will. However, Hazrat Nuh (peace be upon him) clarified that no refuge could save him except for Allah's mercy, and that only those who were under Allah's protection would be spared.

✅ [93] The Drowning of Kanaan

The verse also highlights that despite Hazrat Nuh's (peace be upon him) efforts to guide his son, he was ultimately among the drowned. This outcome was the result of Hazrat Nuh’s prayer in which he sought Allah’s justice by asking that no infidels remain on earth (as seen in S71:V26). There were no exceptions to this prayer, including his son, Kanaan, who had rejected faith. The prayer was not declined but was fulfilled, showing that even a Prophet’s family member, if they reject faith, cannot be saved unless they accept Allah's guidance.
