"He said, 'O my people, tell me, if I am on clear evidence [135] from my Lord, and He has granted me mercy from Himself, then who will protect me from Allah if I disobey Him? You will add nothing to me but loss.'"
✅ [135] Clear Evidence and Confirmation
In this verse, Hazrat Salih (peace be upon him) uses the term "if" not as an expression of doubt, but to emphasize the certainty of his situation. The phrase "if I am on clear evidence from my Lord" serves as a confirmation that Hazrat Salih (peace be upon him) is indeed on the right path, supported by clear divine evidence and mercy from Allah. The use of "if" here emphasizes that his evidence is undeniable and his guidance is certain. It’s not a matter of possibility, but a confirmed truth. Hazrat Salih (peace be upon him) reinforces the idea that if he disobeys Allah, no one can protect him from Allah’s punishment, and any support from the people would only lead to loss. This serves as a reminder that divine mercy and guidance are the only true sources of protection, and rejecting Allah’s guidance leads to nothing but harm.
The tafsir of Surah Hud verse 63 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Hud ayat 62 which provides the complete commentary from verse 62 through 63.
(11:63) Salih said: ‘My people! What do you think? If I had a clear evidence from my Lord, and then He also bestowed His mercy upon me, who will rescue me from the punishment of Allah if I still disobey Him? You can only make me lose even more.[73]
73. This is the answer to the preceding question: If I disobey Allah by discarding the guidance I have received from Him in order to please you, you cannot defend me against Him. You will rather add to the intensity of my guilt of disobedience to Him. Thus I shall incur additional punishment from Him for misleading you instead of showing the right way for which I had been sent to you.
