Transliteration:( Wa jaaa'ahoo qawmuhoo yuhra'oona ilaihi wa min qablu kaanoo ya'maloonas saiyiaat; qaala yaa qawmi haaa'ulaaa'i banaatee hunna atharu lakum fattaqul laaha wa laa tukhzooni fee daifee alaisa minkum rajulur rasheed )

78. And his people came running [156] to him, and they had been accustomed to committing evil deeds. He said, "O people, these are my daughters [157]; they are purer for you. So fear Allah and do not disgrace me in the presence of my guests [158]. Is there not among you a man of good character [159]?" (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

(78) And his people came hastening to him, and before [this] they had been doing evil deeds.[569] He said, "O my people, these are my daughters;[570] they are purer for you. So fear Allāh and do not disgrace me concerning my guests. Is there not among you a man of reason?" (Saheen International Translation)

Surah Hud Ayat 78 Tafsir (Commentry)

156 Because they were informed by Hazrat Lut's (On whom be peace) infidel wife that very handsome young boys have come to our house

157 . Your wives, who are my compatriot daughters. Its explanation is the following verse "And leave your wives whom your Lord has created for you" (S26:V166). From this one can deduce that he was calling the wives of these cursed people 'my daughters' just as elders sometimes refer to the youngsters as my son or daughter. From this we learn that to serve and protect your guests is the practice of prophets even if you don't know them.

158. From this we learn that the beloved servants of Allah Almighty are displeased with those who annoy and trouble their guests, and happy with those who are hospitable to them.
159. This means if you reject my words due to your stubborness, then listen to those who are wise and intelligent among you who try to refrain you from your mischief. These words were spoken to them by Hazrat Lut (On whom be peace) in utter distress and misery.

(11:78) And his people came to him rushing. Before this they were wont to commit evil deeds. Lot said: ‘My people! Here are my daughters; they are purer for you.[87] Have fear of Allah and do not disgrace me concerning my guests. Is there not even one right-minded person in your midst?’

Ala-Maududi

(11:78) And his people came to him rushing. Before this they were wont to commit evil deeds. Lot said: ‘My people! Here are my daughters; they are purer for you.[87] Have fear of Allah and do not disgrace me concerning my guests. Is there not even one right-minded person in your midst?’

87. By “My daughters”, Prophet Lot (peace be upon him) might have meant either of the two things. He might have referred to the daughters of the community as “my daughters” because the relationship of a Prophet to his people is as of a father to his children. But it is also possible that he aught have meant by this his own daughters. Anyhow, this could not have been an offer of adultery, for the succeeding sentence “they are purer for you” leaves no room for such a misunderstanding. This makes it quite obvious that Prophet Lot (peace be upon him) admonished them in this way so as to turn them to the females for the lawful gratification of their sexual desires instead of seeking unnatural ways.

(78) And his people came hastening to him, and before [this] they had been doing evil deeds.[569] He said, "O my people, these are my daughters;[570] they are purer for you. So fear Allāh and do not disgrace me concerning my guests. Is there not among you a man of reason?"

[569]- Referring to their practice of sodomy and homosexual rape of males. [570]- i.e., the women of his community who were available for marriage.
