📖 Commentary of Surah Ibrahim – Verse 43

43. They will come out running [95], with their heads raised high, their gaze unreturning [96], and their hearts will be void [97].
(Kanzul Imaan Translation)

✅ [95] Resurrection and gathering for the Trumpet blast

  • This describes the moment of resurrection when the dead will come forth hastening from their graves.

  • They run towards Hazrat Israfeel (On whom be peace), who will blow the Trumpet to signal the Day of Judgment.

  • The urgency in their movement shows the seriousness and inevitability of the event.

✅ [96] Their gaze will be fixed and unblinking

  • Their eyes will remain wide open without blinking — a sign of intense fear and helplessness.

  • They cannot look back at themselves or others; instead, their gaze is fixed upwards, symbolizing a loss of control and overwhelming dread.

  • Everyone will be resurrected naked, with no shame or distraction, and no one able to meet another’s gaze, emphasizing the gravity and isolation of that moment.

✅ [97] Their hearts will be empty and void

  • Their hearts will be devoid of hope, comfort, or faith — reflecting complete spiritual emptiness.

  • This emotional state reflects the hopelessness of the wrongdoers facing the consequences of their deeds.

  • It symbolizes a total severance from any worldly attachments or inner peace.

The tafsir of Surah Ibrahim verse 43 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Ibrahim ayat 42 which provides the complete commentary from verse 42 through 43.

(14:43) when they shall keep pressing ahead in haste, their heads lifted up, their gaze directed forward,[54] unable to look away from what they behold, their hearts utterly void.

Ala-Maududi

(14:43) when they shall keep pressing ahead in haste, their heads lifted up, their gaze directed forward,[54] unable to look away from what they behold, their hearts utterly void.

54. This graphic picture depicts the horrible plight of the wrongdoers on the Day of Reckoning. When they will realize the situation, they will be so taken aback that they will have their looks fixed straight in front of them without seeing anything.

(43) Racing ahead, their heads raised up, their glance does not come back to them,[663] and their hearts are void.

[663]- This is their state at the time of resurrection from the graves. Their heads are upraised in fixed stares of terror, unable even to glance back.
