📖 Commentary of Surah Saba – Verse 29

"Instead they say: 'When will this promise be fulfilled, if you are truthful?' [93]"

✅ [93] Mocking Inquiry About the Day of Judgement

The disbelievers’ question regarding the promised Day of Judgement—"When will it be?"—was not asked with sincerity or desire for truth. It was posed mockingly, as a means to ridicule the Prophet ﷺ and reject the concept of resurrection altogether. Their intention was amusement and disbelief, not understanding or submission.

Thus, no direct response is provided to them here. This silence itself is a rebuke, signifying that such questions, when asked insincerely, do not merit answers. The knowledge of the exact moment of Qiyamah lies only with Allah, and its signs, not its date, are what serve as warnings.

It is well established in other hadiths and commentaries that the Holy Prophet ﷺ foretold its signs, giving believers knowledge of the era and conditions of the final Hour. Among these signs are moral decay, widespread injustice, natural disasters, and the appearance of Dajjal. According to traditional sources, the Day of Judgement will occur on a Friday, specifically the 10th of Muharram (Ashura). These details were told for the benefit of the believers, not to entertain deniers.

48. That is, “When will the time come about which you say: Our Lord will gather you together, then He will judge between us rightly? We have been denying you persistently and opposing you openly for so long. Why is not then the judgment being passed against us?
