Surah Ta-Ha Ayat 72 Tafsir (Commentry)

  • Tafseer-e-Naeemi (Ahmad Yaar Khan)
  • Ibn Kathir
  • Ala-Madudi
  • Shaheen International

92. The magicians thought over this that even if the turning of the stick of Hazrat Musa (On whom be peace) had been due to magic, then where have so many of our sticks and ropes disappeared because although this one stick had swallowed everything of ours, its weight has not increased even a wee bit.

From this we learn that knowledge no matter of what type it may be is good because some of it leads to obtaining guidance. The magicians came to know the truth about Hazrat Musa (On whom be peace) through their magic and thus, accepted faith.

93. Through one blessed gaze of Hazrat Musa (On whom be peace), these magicians became believers, his companions and then martyrs, all of which happened within one day, all through the altar of love of this blessed school and Teacher. We further learn that the heart of the believer is full of bravery. After accepting faith the magicians toid Pharaoh do what you want to, we will not turn away from our faith.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Ta-Ha verse 72 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Taha ayat 71 which provides the complete commentary from verse 71 through 73.

(20:72) The magicians answered: “By Him Who has created us, we shall never prefer you to the Truth after manifest Signs have come to us.[49] So decree whatever you will. Your decree will pertain, at the most, to the present life of the world.

Ala-Maududi

(20:72) The magicians answered: “By Him Who has created us, we shall never prefer you to the Truth after manifest Signs have come to us.[49] So decree whatever you will. Your decree will pertain, at the most, to the present life of the world.

49. It may also be interpreted like this: It cannot be that we should prefer you to these plain signs which have come before us and to that Being Who has created us.

(72) They said, "Never will we prefer you over what has come to us of clear proofs and [over] He who created us.[842] So decree whatever you are to decree. You can only decree for this worldly life.

[842]- This phrase has also been interpreted as an oath, i.e., "...by Him who created us."
