Transliteration:( Qul yaaa ayyuhan naasu qad jaaa'akumul haqqu mir Rabbikum; famanih tadaa fa innamaa yahtadee li nafsih; wa man dalla fa innamaa yadillu 'alaihaa; wa maaa ana 'alaikum bi wakeel )

(108) Say, "O mankind, the truth has come to you from your Lord, so whoever is guided is only guided for [the benefit of] his soul, and whoever goes astray only goes astray [in violation] against it. And I am not over you a manager." (Saheen International Translation)

276. He will certainly derive benefit from the guidance. Although parents receive benefits from their children's guidance, but they themselves are not deprived of it. Hence the verse is free of objection. It could also mean your exhortation of guidance will be beneficial or harmful to you.

277. Because the misguided and heretical person receives the punishment of his misguidance, although misguiding and negligent parents too become victims of this. Says Allah Almighty: "Save yourselves and your family from the Fire" (S66: V6)

278. From this were learn that the misguidance and heresy of the people is not the responsibilty of the Holy Prophet  nor will be the Holy Prophet questioned about their heresy and Windows Says Allah Almighty: "And you shall not question about the inmates of Hell". (S2:V119)

Thus we are dependent of the Holy Prophet he is not dependent or in need of us. Thus this blessed verse is in praise because of the Holy Prophet it mentions the total independence of the Prophet of Allah Almighty from the rest of creation.

279. Be it absolute Revelation like the Holy QUR'AAN and the Hadith, or efficacious revelation pertaining to injunctions like the interpretations of the Holy Prophet in matter of laws. It is for this that the Holy Prophet reason himself acted upon interpretations and commanded the jurists to act upon it. For complete details on this subject refer to our book JAA-AL-HAQUE.

Ibn-Kathir

108. Say: “O people! Now the truth has come to you from your Lord. So whoever receives guidance, he does so for the good of himself. And whoever goes astray, he does so at his own loss. And I am not set over you as a guardian. 109. And follow what is revealed to you, and be patient until Allah gives judgment. And He is the best of the judges.) Allah, the Exalted, commands His Messenger to inform the people that that which he has brought them from Allah is the truth. It is a message concerning which there is no doubt or suspicion. Therefore, whoever is guided by it and follows it, then he only benefits himself by doing so. Likewise, whoever is misguided away from this message, then he will suffer the consequences against his own self.

﴿وَمَآ أَنَاْ عَلَيْكُمْ بِوَكِيلٍ﴾

(And I am not set over you as a guardian) This means, `I am not a guardian over you in order for you to become believers. I am only a warner to you and guidance belongs to Allah, the Exalted.’ Concerning Allah’s statement,

﴿وَاتَّبِعْ مَا يُوحَى إِلَيْكَ وَاصْبِرْ﴾

(And follow what has been revealed to you, and be patient) This means, `Adhere to that which Allah has revealed to you, and inspired you with, and be patient with the opposition that you meet from the people.’

﴿حَتَّى يَحْكُمَ اللَّهُ﴾

(until Allah gives judgment) This means, `Until Allah judges between you and them.’

﴿وَهُوَ خَيْرُ الْحَـكِمِينَ﴾

(And He is the best of judges. ) This means that He is the best of those who pass judgment, due to His Justice and His wisdom.

(10:108) Tell them (O Muhammad): ‘Men! Truth has come to you from your Lord. Whosoever, then, follows the true guidance does so for his own good; and whosoever strays, his straying will be to his own hurt. I am no custodian over you.
