The summary / Theme of the Surah Al-Baqara

The Cow - Al Baqarah (The title of this surah refers to an argument between Moses and the Israelites over a cow they should sacrifice in order to make known the murder of a slain man. This is the longest of all the surah, numbering 286 ayah or verses.

Lesson Learned from Surah Al-Baqara

  1. It is sometimes better not to ask too many questions when instructed to do something. The Jews did this and ended up in trouble.
  2. Be grateful for what you have. 
  3. Don’t do anything that resembles the disbelievers, or will lead them to take your actions as legislation to attack the Da«n. In short, the principle of Sadd-Adh-Dhara ‘i’.
  4. Whatever good you send forth for the Hereafter, you will find it there safe and appreciated by Allah.
  5. You shall never be able to please the Jews and the Christians unless you join them in their religion. 
  6. The relationship between Allah and the Prophet ï·º was immensely enviable. 
  7. á¹¢abr (Patience) has great virtue: Allah showers the patient with mercy and guidance.

  9. Constantly ponder over the creation of Allah and His blessings, and remember Him.

  15.  رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ 
  16. Enter into Isla m in its totality; don’t pick and choose from the Da«n.  
  17. Allah is ever ready to accept the du‘a s of His servants.  
  18. There are times when we say we are ready to do a certain thing but when that becomes binding on us, we back out. This is reprehensible behavior.
  19. The Help of Allah will come, albeit sometimes belatedly.  
  20. Allah does as He wishes; He is not accountable for His actions.  
  21. Spending: the do’s, don’ts, and virtues.
  22. Refrain from asking people for your needs; remain independent from the people, as special praise has been reserved for those who do, despite being in need.
  23. Stay away from interest, as Allah declares war on those who deal in interest. 
  24. Loans should be written down and dealt with properly.  
  25. Allah does not make obligatory upon us those things which we are incapable of carrying out.

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

 

وَعَلَّمَ ءَادَمَ ٱلۡأَسۡمَآءَ كُلَّهَا ثُمَّ عَرَضَهُمۡ عَلَى ٱلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ فَقَالَ أَنۢبِـُٔونِي بِأَسۡمَآءِ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَٰدِقِينَ

Transliteration:( Wa 'allama Aadamal asmaaa'a kullahaa summa 'aradahum 'alal malaaa'ikati faqaala ambi'oonee bias maaa'i haaa'ulaaa'i in kuntum saadiqeen )
31. And He taught Adam [60] the names of all things. Then He presented them to the angels [61] and said, "Inform Me of the names of these, if you are truthful." [62]

قَالُواْ سُبۡحَٰنَكَ لَا عِلۡمَ لَنَآ إِلَّا مَا عَلَّمۡتَنَآۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلۡعَلِيمُ ٱلۡحَكِيمُ

Transliteration:( Qaaloo subhaanaka laa 'ilma lanaaa illaa maa 'allamtanaaa innaka antal'aleemul hakeem )
32.They said, "Exalted are You! We have no knowledge except what You have taught us [63]. Indeed, You alone are the All-Knowing, the Wise." [64]

قَالَ يَـٰٓـَٔادَمُ أَنۢبِئۡهُم بِأَسۡمَآئِهِمۡۖ فَلَمَّآ أَنۢبَأَهُم بِأَسۡمَآئِهِمۡ قَالَ أَلَمۡ أَقُل لَّكُمۡ إِنِّيٓ أَعۡلَمُ غَيۡبَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَأَعۡلَمُ مَا تُبۡدُونَ وَمَا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡتُمُونَ

Transliteration:( Qaala yaaa Aadamu ambi' hum biasmaaa'ihim falammaa amba ahum bi asmaaa'ihim qaala alam aqul lakum inneee a'lamu ghaibas samaawaati wal ardi wa a'lamu maa tubdoona wa maa kuntum taktumoon )
33. He (Allah) said: "O Adam! Inform them of the names of these things" [65]. When he (Adam) informed them of the names of all these things, Allah said: "Did I not tell you that I know all the hidden mysteries of the heavens and the earth, and I know whatever you disclose and whatever you conceal?"

وَإِذۡ قُلۡنَا لِلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ ٱسۡجُدُواْ لِأٓدَمَ فَسَجَدُوٓاْ إِلَّآ إِبۡلِيسَ أَبَىٰ وَٱسۡتَكۡبَرَ وَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ

Transliteration:( Wa iz qulnaa lilmalaaa'i katis judoo liAadama fasajadooo illaaa Ibleesa abaa wastakbara wa kaana minal kaafireen )
34. And (recall) when We ordered the angels to prostrate before Adam [66]. All of them prostrated, except Iblis. He refused and was arrogant and became one of the infidels [67].

وَقُلۡنَا يَـٰٓـَٔادَمُ ٱسۡكُنۡ أَنتَ وَزَوۡجُكَ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ وَكُلَا مِنۡهَا رَغَدًا حَيۡثُ شِئۡتُمَا وَلَا تَقۡرَبَا هَٰذِهِ ٱلشَّجَرَةَ فَتَكُونَا مِنَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

Transliteration:( Wa qulnaa yaaa Aadamus kun anta wa zawjukal jannata wa kulaa minhaa raghadan haisu shi'tumaa wa laa taqrabaa haazihish shajarata fatakoonaa minaz zaalimeen )
35. And We said: "O Adam, dwell [68] you and your wife in Paradise and eat therefrom in abundance as you like, but do not approach this tree [69] lest you become one of the wrongdoers [70]."

فَأَزَلَّهُمَا ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنُ عَنۡهَا فَأَخۡرَجَهُمَا مِمَّا كَانَا فِيهِۖ وَقُلۡنَا ٱهۡبِطُواْ بَعۡضُكُمۡ لِبَعۡضٍ عَدُوّٞۖ وَلَكُمۡ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مُسۡتَقَرّٞ وَمَتَٰعٌ إِلَىٰ حِينٖ

Transliteration:( Fa azallahumash Shaitaanu 'anhaa fa akhrajahumaa mimmaa kaanaa fee wa qulnah bitoo ba'dukum liba'din 'aduwwunw wa lakum fil ardi mustaqarrunw wa mataa'un ilaa heen )
36.Then Shaitaan caused the two to slip out [71] of it and removed them from the abode. And We said: "Get down (all of you) [72] as enemies to one another. And you will have on the earth a place of settlement and provision for a time" [73].

فَتَلَقَّىٰٓ ءَادَمُ مِن رَّبِّهِۦ كَلِمَٰتٖ فَتَابَ عَلَيۡهِۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلتَّوَّابُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

Transliteration:( Fatalaqqaaa Aadamu mir Rabbihee Kalimaatin fataaba 'alaihi; innahoo Huwat Tawwaabur Raheem )
37. Then Adam learned certain words (of repentance) [74] from his Lord and He (Allah) accepted his repentance. Surely, He is the Most-Relenting, the Merciful [75].

قُلۡنَا ٱهۡبِطُواْ مِنۡهَا جَمِيعٗاۖ فَإِمَّا يَأۡتِيَنَّكُم مِّنِّي هُدٗى فَمَن تَبِعَ هُدَايَ فَلَا خَوۡفٌ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ يَحۡزَنُونَ

Transliteration:( Qulnah bitoo minhaa jamee 'an fa immaa ya'tiyannakum minnee hudan faman tabi'a hudaaya falaa khawfun 'alaihim wa laa hum yahza noon )
38. And We said: "O Adam, dwell [68] you and your wife in Paradise and eat therefrom in abundance as you like, but do not approach this tree [69] lest you become one wrongdoer [70]."

وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ وَكَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَآ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلنَّارِۖ هُمۡ فِيهَا خَٰلِدُونَ

Transliteration:( Wallazeena kafaroo wa kaz zabooo bi aayaatinaa ulaaa'ika Ashaabun Naari hum feehaa khaalidoon )
39. And those who disbelieve and falsify Our signs, they will be the inmates of Hell [77], and they will abide therein eternally.

يَٰبَنِيٓ إِسۡرَـٰٓءِيلَ ٱذۡكُرُواْ نِعۡمَتِيَ ٱلَّتِيٓ أَنۡعَمۡتُ عَلَيۡكُمۡ وَأَوۡفُواْ بِعَهۡدِيٓ أُوفِ بِعَهۡدِكُمۡ وَإِيَّـٰيَ فَٱرۡهَبُونِ

Transliteration:( Yaa Baneee Israaa'eelaz kuroo ni'matiyal lateee an'amtu 'alaikum wa awfoo bi'Ahdeee oofi bi ahdikum wa iyyaaya farhaboon )
40. O Children of Israel, remember My favor [78] which I have bestowed upon you and fulfill your part of the covenant with Me; then I will fulfill My part of the covenant with you. And fear none but Me.
