The summary/theme of the surah Al-Hashr:

It is through the example of the Battle of Banu Nadir that the believer demonstrates the victory of the believers. In the Holy Scriptures, Allah teaches us that He creates fear in the hearts of His enemies in order to allow the believers to overcome them and deliver the justice that they deserve for betraying the Prophet.

Lesson learned from surah Al-Hashr:

  1. Whoever shows hostility towards Allah's and His Messenger ï·º is in for a severe punishment.
  2. Whatever the Messenger ï·º gives and teaches you, take it happily. And whatever he refrains you from, refrain from it.
  3. Some qualities of the Aná¹£'r:
  4. They prepared Al-Mada«nah for the Muh'jirÅ«n
  5. They truly loved the Muh'jirÅ«n
  6. They felt no envy in the wealth that was granted to the Muh'jirÅ«n
  7. They gave preference to others over themselves even though they themselves were in poverty.
  8. Whoever is saved from the greed of his/her heart is indeed successful.
  9. Make a point of making this du‘':
  11. ‘Our Rabb! Forgive us and those of our brothers who preceded us in faith, and do not place in ourhearts any rancour against those who believe; Surely, Our Lord, you are Very-Kind, Very-Merciful.’ (59:10)
  12. The hypocrites would continuously make false promises, which Allah's exposed.
  13. The hypocrites would only fight if they knew they had more of a chance of surviving. Their relations between themselves were extremely fragile, and disputes rife. On the outset, it looked as if they were a united bunch, yet their hearts were divided.
  14. One way of achieving taqw' is to continuously ponder over what deeds you have sent forth for the Hereafter.
  15. If you forget Allah's, He will cause you to forget yourself.
  16. Allah's has many beautiful names; we should learn them and call Him by them.

Transliteration:( Sabbaha lillaahi maa fissamaawaati wa maa fil ardi wa Huwal 'Azeezul Hakeem )
1. Whatever is in the heavens [1] and whatever is in the earth glorifies Allah, and He is the Most Honourable, the Most Wise [2].

Transliteration:( Huwal lazeee akharajal lazeena kafaroo min ahlil kitaabi min diyaarihim li awwalil Hashr; maa zanantum any yakhrujoo wa zannooo annahum maa ni'atuhum husoonuhum minal laahi faataahumul laahu min haisu lam yahtasiboo wa qazafa fee quloobihimur ru'ba yukhriboona bu yootahum bi aydeehim wa aydil mu'mineena fa'tabiroo yaaa ulil absaar )
2.It is He who expelled (Jews) the infidels (3) of the people of the Book (4) from their homes at the first (5) assembly. You did not think (6) that they would go forth; while they were certain that their fortresses would defend (7) them against Allah. But Allah came upon them from where they did not expect (8), and filled their hearts with terror. They demolished their houses with their own hands (9), and the hands of the believers (10). Therefore, take a lesson, O you men of vision (11)

Transliteration:( Wa law laaa an katabal laahu 'alaihimul jalaaa'a la'azzabahum fid dunyaa wa lahum fil Aakhirati 'azaabun Naar )
3. And certainly, had it not been that Allah had decreed for them the exile, He would certainly have punished [12] them in this world. But in the Hereafter they would have the punishment of the fire [13].

Transliteration:( Zaalika bi annahum shaaqqul laaha wa Rasoolahoo wa many yushaaaqqil laaha fa innal laaha shadeedul-'iqaab )
4.That is because they opposed [14] Allah and His Messenger. And whoever acts in opposition to Allah, and then surely, Allah is severe [15] in retribution.

Transliteration:( Maa qata'tum mil leenatin aw taraktumoohaa qaaa'imatan'alaaa usoolihaa fabi iznil laahi wa liyukhziyal faasiqeen )
5. The palm tree you (Muhammad) cut down or left standing upon its roots (16), it was by the Command of Allah. And He will disgrace the infidels.

Transliteration:( Wa maaa afaaa'al laahu 'alaaa Rasoolihee minhum famaaa awjaftum 'alaihi min khailiinw wa laa rikaabinw wa laakinnal laaha yusallitu Rusulahoo 'alaa many yashaaa'; wallaahu 'alaa kulli shai'in Qadeer )
6. And whatever Allah gave to his Messenger as the booties, you neither urged to get a horse nor a camel [17] for that, but Allah grants authority to His Messenger [18] against whom He pleases. And Allah has Power over everything (19),

Transliteration:( Maaa afaaa'al laahu 'alaa Rasoolihee min ahlil quraa falillaahi wa lir Rasooli wa lizil qurbaa wal yataamaa walmasaakeeni wabnis sabeeli kai laa yakoona doolatam bainal aghniyaaa'i minkum; wa maaa aataakumur Rasoolu fakhuzoohu wa maa nahaakum 'anhu fantahoo; wattaqul laaha innal laaha shadeedul-'iqaab )
7. Whatever Allah has given to His Messenger as booty, from the people of the town, it is for Allah and for the Messenger and for the next of kin [20] and the orphans, and the needy, and the wayfarers [21], so that it may not become the wealth of your rich (22). And whatever the Messenger of Allah gives you, take it. And fear Allah. Surely Allah is severe in retribution (23).

Transliteration:( Lilfuqaraaa'il Muhaaji reenal lazeena ukhrijoo min diyaarihim wa amwaalihim yabtaghoona fadlam minal laahi wa ridwaananw wa yansuroonal laaha wa Rasoolah; ulaaa'ika humus saadiqoon )
8. Booty is for the poor refugees who were driven from [24] their homes and their possessions, seeking grace [25] of Allah and His Pleasure, and assisting (26) Allah and His Messenger. These are the truthful persons (27).

9. And those who had their homes in this city (Madina) and accepted faith (28) before (the arrival of the Holy Prophet there), love (29) those who come to them for refuge, and do not mind (30) a need of what they (refugees) are given, and prefer refugees to themselves, and even though poverty (31) may afflict them. And whoever is away from the miserliness of his own self, (they) are the successful (32) ones.

10. And those who came after [33] them submitted: "O our Lord! Forgive us and our brothers who preceded [34] us in faith." Do not leave a grudge (35) to remain in our hearts towards those who believe. Our Lord, surely, you are Kind and Merciful (36).
