The summary/theme of the Surah Al-Isra

 The disbelievers of Makkah are admonished to take lessons from the miserable end of the Israelites and other communities and mend their ways from this Surah, which is a wonderful blend of warning, admonition, and instruction. In this Surah important event has been mentioned regarding the night journey of our Holy Prophet to the heavens and meeting with Allah

Lesson learned from Surah Al-Isra

  1. On the Day of Judgement, everyone shall be handed their book of deeds, which will have every minute detail of their lives recorded. They themselves will be able to envisage their outcome that day. 
  2. Whoever strives solely behind the luxuries of this world, Allah's will give them whatever He wishes to, not what they themselves want, and then doom them to Jahannam.
  3. Whoever strives to acquire the luxuries of the Hereafter properly, Allah's will appreciate his/her efforts. 
  4. Each person will be responsible for his/her own burdens on the Day of Qiy'mah; not for those of others.  
  5. Be good to parents.  
  6. Make this du‘' regularly for your parents:

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

 

وَيَدۡعُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ بِٱلشَّرِّ دُعَآءَهُۥ بِٱلۡخَيۡرِۖ وَكَانَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ عَجُولٗا

Transliteration:( Wa yad'ul insaanu bishsharri du'aaa 'ahoo bilkhayr; wa kaanal insaanu 'ajoola )
11. And man prays for evil [30] just as he prays for good, and man is ever hasty [31].

وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱلَّيۡلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ ءَايَتَيۡنِۖ فَمَحَوۡنَآ ءَايَةَ ٱلَّيۡلِ وَجَعَلۡنَآ ءَايَةَ ٱلنَّهَارِ مُبۡصِرَةٗ لِّتَبۡتَغُواْ فَضۡلٗا مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ وَلِتَعۡلَمُواْ عَدَدَ ٱلسِّنِينَ وَٱلۡحِسَابَۚ وَكُلَّ شَيۡءٖ فَصَّلۡنَٰهُ تَفۡصِيلٗا

Transliteration:( Wa ja'alnal laila wannahaara Aayatayni famahawnaaa Aayatal laili wa ja'alnaaa Aayatan nahaari mubsiratal litabtaghoo fadlam mir Rabbikum wa lita'lamoo 'adadas sineena walhisaab; wa kulla shai'in fassalnaahu tafseelaa )
12. And We made the night and the day as two signs [32], then We blotted out the sign of the night and made the sign of the day bright [33], so that you may seek the bounty of your Lord [34] and that you may know the number of years and the reckoning [35]. We have explained everything in detail [36].

وَكُلَّ إِنسَٰنٍ أَلۡزَمۡنَٰهُ طَـٰٓئِرَهُۥ فِي عُنُقِهِۦۖ وَنُخۡرِجُ لَهُۥ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ كِتَٰبٗا يَلۡقَىٰهُ مَنشُورًا

Transliteration:( Wa kulla insaanin alzamnaahu taaa'irahoo fee 'unuqihee wa nukhriji lahoo Yawmal Qiyaamati kitaabany yalqaahu manshooraa )
13. And We have tied to his neck [37] the destiny of every person, and on the Day of Judgment, We shall bring forth a book for him which he will find spread open.

ٱقۡرَأۡ كِتَٰبَكَ كَفَىٰ بِنَفۡسِكَ ٱلۡيَوۡمَ عَلَيۡكَ حَسِيبٗا

Transliteration:( Iqra kitaabaka kafaa bi nafsikal Yawma 'alaika haseebaa )
14.(It will be said to him), Read [38] your book. Today, you are sufficient to take account of yourself [39].

مَّنِ ٱهۡتَدَىٰ فَإِنَّمَا يَهۡتَدِي لِنَفۡسِهِۦۖ وَمَن ضَلَّ فَإِنَّمَا يَضِلُّ عَلَيۡهَاۚ وَلَا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٞ وِزۡرَ أُخۡرَىٰۗ وَمَا كُنَّا مُعَذِّبِينَ حَتَّىٰ نَبۡعَثَ رَسُولٗا

Transliteration:( Manihtadaa fa innamaa yahtadee linafsihee wa man dalla fa innamaa yadillu 'alaihaa; wa laa taziru waaziratunw wizra ukhraa; wa maa kunnaa mu'azzibeena hatta nab'asa Rasoola )
15. Whoever follows guidance [40], does so for his own benefit, and whoever goes astray, does so to his own detriment. No soul shall bear the burden [41] of another. And We do not punish until We have sent a messenger [42].

وَإِذَآ أَرَدۡنَآ أَن نُّهۡلِكَ قَرۡيَةً أَمَرۡنَا مُتۡرَفِيهَا فَفَسَقُواْ فِيهَا فَحَقَّ عَلَيۡهَا ٱلۡقَوۡلُ فَدَمَّرۡنَٰهَا تَدۡمِيرٗا

Transliteration:( Wa izaaa aradnaaa an nuhlika qaryatan amarnaa mutrafeehaa fafasaqoo feehaa fahaqqa 'alaihal qawlu fadammarnaahaa tadmeeraa )
16. And when We intend to destroy a town [43], We command its affluent people [44], and they become disobedient in it. So, the decree is fulfilled upon it, and We completely destroy it [45].

وَكَمۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَا مِنَ ٱلۡقُرُونِ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ نُوحٖۗ وَكَفَىٰ بِرَبِّكَ بِذُنُوبِ عِبَادِهِۦ خَبِيرَۢا بَصِيرٗا

Transliteration:( Wa kam ahlaknaa minal qurooni min ba'di Nooh; wa kafaa bi Rabbika bizunoobi 'ibaadihee Khabeeram Baseeraa )
17. And how many generations [46] We have destroyed after Nuh. And your Lord is enough as the All-Aware and the All-Seeing of the sins of His servants [47].

مَّن كَانَ يُرِيدُ ٱلۡعَاجِلَةَ عَجَّلۡنَا لَهُۥ فِيهَا مَا نَشَآءُ لِمَن نُّرِيدُ ثُمَّ جَعَلۡنَا لَهُۥ جَهَنَّمَ يَصۡلَىٰهَا مَذۡمُومٗا مَّدۡحُورٗا

Transliteration:( Man kaana yureedul 'aajilata 'ajjalnaa lahoo feehaa maa nashaaa'u liman nureedu summa ja'alnaa lahoo Jahannama yaslaahaa mazmoomammad hooraa )
18. Whosoever desires the quick gains of this world [48], We will give him whatever We will [49] to whom We please. Then We will assign Hell to him, where he will enter in a state of disgrace and rejection.

وَمَنۡ أَرَادَ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةَ وَسَعَىٰ لَهَا سَعۡيَهَا وَهُوَ مُؤۡمِنٞ فَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ كَانَ سَعۡيُهُم مَّشۡكُورٗا

Transliteration:( Wa man araadal Aakhirata wa sa'aa lahaa sa'yahaa wa huwa mu'minun fa ulaaa'ika kaana sa'yuhum mashkooraa )
19. And whosoever seeks the Hereafter and exerts effort for it as it should be and is a believer [51], then their effort is appreciated [52].

كُلّٗا نُّمِدُّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ وَهَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ مِنۡ عَطَآءِ رَبِّكَۚ وَمَا كَانَ عَطَآءُ رَبِّكَ مَحۡظُورًا

Transliteration:( Kullan numiddu haaa 'ulaaa'i wa haaa'ulaaa'i min 'ataaa'i rabbik; wa maa kaana 'ataaa'u rabbika mahzooraa )
20. We provide for all these and those [53] from the bounty of your Lord. And the bounty of your Lord is never restricted [54].
