The summary/theme of the Surah Al-Isra

 The disbelievers of Makkah are admonished to take lessons from the miserable end of the Israelites and other communities and mend their ways from this Surah, which is a wonderful blend of warning, admonition, and instruction. In this Surah important event has been mentioned regarding the night journey of our Holy Prophet to the heavens and meeting with Allah

Lesson learned from Surah Al-Isra

  1. On the Day of Judgement, everyone shall be handed their book of deeds, which will have every minute detail of their lives recorded. They themselves will be able to envisage their outcome that day. 
  2. Whoever strives solely behind the luxuries of this world, Allah's will give them whatever He wishes to, not what they themselves want, and then doom them to Jahannam.
  3. Whoever strives to acquire the luxuries of the Hereafter properly, Allah's will appreciate his/her efforts. 
  4. Each person will be responsible for his/her own burdens on the Day of Qiy'mah; not for those of others.  
  5. Be good to parents.

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

 

ٱنظُرۡ كَيۡفَ فَضَّلۡنَا بَعۡضَهُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضٖۚ وَلَلۡأٓخِرَةُ أَكۡبَرُ دَرَجَٰتٖ وَأَكۡبَرُ تَفۡضِيلٗا

Transliteration:( Unzur kaifa faddalnaa ba'dahum 'alaa ba'd; wa lal Aakhiratu akbaru darajaatinw wa akbaru tafdeelaa )
21. See how We have favored some over others. Indeed, the Hereafter holds higher ranks and greater preference [55].

لَّا تَجۡعَلۡ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا ءَاخَرَ فَتَقۡعُدَ مَذۡمُومٗا مَّخۡذُولٗا

Transliteration:( Laa taj'al ma'al laahi ilaahan aakhara fataq'uda mazoomam makhzoolaa (section 2) )
22. Do not set up another deity with Allah, or you will sit, despised and forsaken [56].

۞وَقَضَىٰ رَبُّكَ أَلَّا تَعۡبُدُوٓاْ إِلَّآ إِيَّاهُ وَبِٱلۡوَٰلِدَيۡنِ إِحۡسَٰنًاۚ إِمَّا يَبۡلُغَنَّ عِندَكَ ٱلۡكِبَرَ أَحَدُهُمَآ أَوۡ كِلَاهُمَا فَلَا تَقُل لَّهُمَآ أُفّٖ وَلَا تَنۡهَرۡهُمَا وَقُل لَّهُمَا قَوۡلٗا كَرِيمٗا

Transliteration:( Wa qadaa Rabbuka allaa ta'budooo illaaa iyyaahu wa bilwaalidaini ihsaanaa; immaa yablughanna 'indakal kibara ahaduhumaaa aw kilaahumaa falaa taqul lahumaaa uffinw wa laa tanharhumaa wa qullahumaa qawlan kareemaa )
23. And your Lord has commanded that you worship none but Him, and be good to your parents. If either or both of them attain old age [58] in your care, do not say to them a word of disrespect [59], nor shout at them, but speak to them a noble word [60].

وَٱخۡفِضۡ لَهُمَا جَنَاحَ ٱلذُّلِّ مِنَ ٱلرَّحۡمَةِ وَقُل رَّبِّ ٱرۡحَمۡهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرٗا

Transliteration:( Wakhfid lahumaa janaahaz zulli minar rahmati wa qur Rabbir hamhumaa kamaa rabbayaanee sagheera )
24. And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy [61], and say, "My Lord, have mercy on them as they brought me up when I was small [62]."

رَّبُّكُمۡ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا فِي نُفُوسِكُمۡۚ إِن تَكُونُواْ صَٰلِحِينَ فَإِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِلۡأَوَّـٰبِينَ غَفُورٗا

Transliteration:( Rabbukum a'lamu bimaa fee nufoosikum; in takoonoo saaliheena fa innahoo kaana lil awwaabeena Ghafoooraa )
25. Your Lord knows well what is in your hearts. If you are righteous, then indeed, He is Most Forgiving to those who repent [63].

وَءَاتِ ذَا ٱلۡقُرۡبَىٰ حَقَّهُۥ وَٱلۡمِسۡكِينَ وَٱبۡنَ ٱلسَّبِيلِ وَلَا تُبَذِّرۡ تَبۡذِيرًا

Transliteration:( Wa aati zal qurbaa haqqahoo walmiskeena wabnas sabeeli wa laa tubazzir tabzeeraa )
26. And give your kinsmen their right [64], and to the needy and to the traveler [65], and do not spend extravagantly [66].

إِنَّ ٱلۡمُبَذِّرِينَ كَانُوٓاْ إِخۡوَٰنَ ٱلشَّيَٰطِينِۖ وَكَانَ ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنُ لِرَبِّهِۦ كَفُورٗا

Transliteration:( Innal mubazzireena kaanoo ikhwaanash shayaateeni wa kaanash shaytaanu li Rabbihee kafooraa )
27. Indeed, the extravagant are brothers of the devils [67], and the devil is very ungrateful to his Lord.

وَإِمَّا تُعۡرِضَنَّ عَنۡهُمُ ٱبۡتِغَآءَ رَحۡمَةٖ مِّن رَّبِّكَ تَرۡجُوهَا فَقُل لَّهُمۡ قَوۡلٗا مَّيۡسُورٗا

Transliteration:( Wa immaa tu'ridanna 'anhum ubtighaaa'a rahmatim mir rabbika tarjoohaa faqul lahum qawlam maisooraa )
28. If you turn away from them, seeking the mercy of your Lord which you hope for, then speak to them with kind words [68].

وَلَا تَجۡعَلۡ يَدَكَ مَغۡلُولَةً إِلَىٰ عُنُقِكَ وَلَا تَبۡسُطۡهَا كُلَّ ٱلۡبَسۡطِ فَتَقۡعُدَ مَلُومٗا مَّحۡسُورًا

Transliteration:( Wa laa taj'al yadaka maghloolatan ilaa 'unuqika wa laa tabsut haa kullal basti fataq'uda maloomam mahsooraa )
29. And do not keep your hand tied [69] to your neck, nor open it completely [70], lest you sit down reproached and exhausted [71].

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَبۡسُطُ ٱلرِّزۡقَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَقۡدِرُۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ بِعِبَادِهِۦ خَبِيرَۢا بَصِيرٗا

Transliteration:( Inna Rabbaka yabsuturrizqa limai yashaaa'u wa yaqdir; innahoo kaana bi'ibaadihee Khabeeran Baseera (section 3) )
30. Indeed, your Lord extends provision for whom He wills and restricts it. Indeed, He is Knowing and Seeing of His servants [72].
