Transliteration:( Farihal mukhallafoona bimaq'adihim khilaafa Rasoolil laahi wa karihooo ai yujaahidoo bi amwaalihim wa anfusihim fee sabeelil laahi wa qaaloo laa tanfiroo fil harr; qul Naaru jahannama ashaddu harraa; law kaanoo yafqahoon )
81. Those who were left behind delighted at this, that they remained sitting behind [224] the Messenger, and they did not like [225] that they may fight in the way of Allah with their wealth and lives. They said, "Do not come out in this heat." Say, "The fire of Hell is much hotter [226]!" If only they could understand [227].

Transliteration:( Falyadhakoo qaleelanw walyabkoo kaseeran jazaaa'an bimaa kaanoo yaksiboon )
82. Let them laugh a little and weep [228] much, as a reward for what they used to earn.

Transliteration:( Fa ir raja'akal laahu ilaa taaa'ifatim minhum fastaaa zanooka lilkhurooji faqul lan takhrujoo ma'iya abadanw wa lan tuqaatiloo ma'iya 'aduwwan innakum radeetum bilqu'oodi awwala marratin faq'udoo ma'al khaalifeen )
83. Then if Allah brings you back to a party of them, and they ask you [229] for permission to go forth, say: "Never will you go forth with me, nor will you ever fight [230] with any enemy. You have chosen to sit at home the first time, so sit with those who remain behind [231]."

Transliteration:( Wa laa tusalli 'alaaa ahadim minhum maata abadanw wa laa taqum 'alaa qabriheee innahum kafaroo billaahi wa Rasoolihee wa maatoo wa hum faasiqoon )
84. And do not pray [232] for any of them who dies, nor stand by their grave. Indeed, they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger and died while they were disobedient [233].

Transliteration:( Wa laa tu'jibka amwaaluhum wa awlaaduhum; innamaa yureedul laahu any yu'azzibahum bihaa fid dunyaa wa tazhaqa anfusuhum wa hum kaafiroon )
85. Be not astonished over their wealth and children. Allah only intends to punish [234] them therewith in this world, and that they part with their souls while they are infidels [235].

Transliteration:( Wa izaaa unzilat Sooratun an aaminoo billaahi wa jaahidoo ma'a Rasoolihis taazanaka uluttawli minhum wa qaaloo zarnaa nakum ma'alqaa 'ideen )
86. And when any Surah is revealed commanding: "Believe in Allah and fight [236] in the company of His Messenger"; then those having the capability among them [237] ask leave of you and say: "Leave us to remain with those who sit behind [238]".

87. They like that they should remain with those who stay behind, and their hearts are sealed [239], so that they understand nothing.

Transliteration:( Laakinir Rasoolu wal lazeena aamanoo ma'ahoo jaahadoo bi amwaalihim wa anfusihim; wa ulaaa'ika lahumul khairaatu wa ulaaa'ika humul muflihoon )
88. But the Messenger and those who believed [240] with him fought with their wealth and lives. And it is they for whom there are good [241] things, and it is they who are successful.

Transliteration:( A'addal laahu lahum Jannaatin tajree min tahtihal anhaaru khaalideena feehaa; zaalikal fawzul 'azeem )
89. Allah has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will dwell forever. That is the great success [242].

Transliteration:( Wa jaaa'al mu'az ziroona minal A'raabi liyu'zana lahum wa qa'adal lazeena kazabul laaha wa Rasoolah; sayuseebul lazeena kafaroo minhum 'azaabun aleem )
90. And there came excuse [243] makers from the villagers in order that leave may be granted to them. And those [244] who lied to Allah and His Messenger sat behind. Soon, a painful punishment shall befall the infidels [245] among them.

Known as "The Immunity," Surah At-Tawbah is the 9th chapter of the Glorious Quran. It contains 129 ayat (verses) and was revealed in Medina after the Prophet (ﷺ) migrated there. This surah consists of two juz (parts). Verses 1 through 92 are in the 10th juz, and verses 93 to 129 are in the 11th juz.

This surah continues from the previous one, as it begins by calling an end to the numerous peace treaties broken by the pagans. The believers are encouraged to join the Prophet (ﷺ) in marching to Tabuk for battle during the summer of 9 A.H. / 631 C.E., and hypocrites—who make spurious excuses—are uncovered and refuted. Muslims are reminded of Allah's protection at the Battle of Uhud, when their defeat turned into a successful victory, as well as how He shielded His Messenger (ﷺ) during his journey to Medina. Throughout this surah, Allah's tolerance for repentance is continually emphasized, hence its title.
