The summary/theme of the surah nuh

Prophet Noah (Nuh) complains about his people's rejection of all warnings given by God through Prophet Noah AS (Nuh). In Nuh, the seventy-first surah, the Quran mentions Nuh's prophethood in snippets.

Lesson learned from surah nuh

  1. When the time of Allah's comes, it does not delay in the slightest.  
  2. Nūḥ عليه السلام complained to Allah's after 950 years of preaching, ‘My Rabb! I have called my people towards You night and day. Each time I preached to them, they would put their fingers in their ears, cover their heads with their clothes, show stubbornness and extreme arrogance. I preached to them openly and in secret; but my preaching only increased them in distancing themselves from You.’  
  3. Istighf'r (Seeking forgiveness from Allah's) has many benefits apart from the main one, which is forgiveness.  
  4. From the benefits: safety from drought, increase in wealth, offspring, and blessings in agriculture/food.

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

 

إِنَّآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوۡمِهِۦٓ أَنۡ أَنذِرۡ قَوۡمَكَ مِن قَبۡلِ أَن يَأۡتِيَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٞ

Transliteration:( Innaaa arsalnaa Noohan ilaa qawmihee an anzir qawmaka min qabli any yaatiyahum 'azaabun aleem )
1. Indeed, We sent Nuh [1] to his people, saying: "Warn your people before a painful punishment [2] comes to them."

قَالَ يَٰقَوۡمِ إِنِّي لَكُمۡ نَذِيرٞ مُّبِينٌ

Transliteration:( Qaala yaa qawmi innee lakum nazeerum mubeen )
2. He said: "O my people, I am a clear warner [3] to you."

أَنِ ٱعۡبُدُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَٱتَّقُوهُ وَأَطِيعُونِ

Transliteration:( Ani'-budul laaha watta qoohu wa atee'oon )
3."That you should worship [4] Allah, fear Him, and obey me."

يَغۡفِرۡ لَكُم مِّن ذُنُوبِكُمۡ وَيُؤَخِّرۡكُمۡ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٖ مُّسَمًّىۚ إِنَّ أَجَلَ ٱللَّهِ إِذَا جَآءَ لَا يُؤَخَّرُۚ لَوۡ كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ

Transliteration:( Yaghfir lakum min zunoobikum wa yu'akhkhirkum ilaaa ajalim musammaa; innaa ajalal laahi izaa jaaa'a laa yu'akhkhar; law kuntum ta'lamoon )
4."He will forgive [5] some of your sins and delay you until an appointed [6] term. Indeed, the promise of Allah, when it comes, cannot be postponed [7]. If only you knew [8].

قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي دَعَوۡتُ قَوۡمِي لَيۡلٗا وَنَهَارٗا

Transliteration:( Qaala rabbi innee da'awtu qawmee lailanw wa naharaa )
5. He [9] said: "O my Lord, indeed I have called my people night and day [10]."

فَلَمۡ يَزِدۡهُمۡ دُعَآءِيٓ إِلَّا فِرَارٗا

Transliteration:( Falam yazid hum du'aaa 'eee illaa firaaraa )
6."But the more I call them, the more they run away [11]."

وَإِنِّي كُلَّمَا دَعَوۡتُهُمۡ لِتَغۡفِرَ لَهُمۡ جَعَلُوٓاْ أَصَٰبِعَهُمۡ فِيٓ ءَاذَانِهِمۡ وَٱسۡتَغۡشَوۡاْ ثِيَابَهُمۡ وَأَصَرُّواْ وَٱسۡتَكۡبَرُواْ ٱسۡتِكۡبَارٗا

Transliteration:( Wa inee kullamaa da'awtuhum litaghfira lahum ja'alooo asaabi'ahum fee aazaanihim wastaghshaw siyaabahum wa asaarroo wastakbarus tikbaaraa )
7. "And whenever I called them to seek Your forgiveness [12], they put their fingers in their ears [13], covered themselves with their garments [14], persisted, and became arrogant [15]."

ثُمَّ إِنِّي دَعَوۡتُهُمۡ جِهَارٗا

Transliteration:( Summa innee da'aw tuhum jihaara )
8."Then I called them openly [16]."

9."And then I preached to them publicly and spoke to them privately [17]."

فَقُلۡتُ ٱسۡتَغۡفِرُواْ رَبَّكُمۡ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ غَفَّارٗا

Transliteration:( Faqultus taghfiroo Rabbakum innahoo kaana Ghaffaaraa )
10. I said: "Ask forgiveness [18] from your Lord. Verily, He is the Most Forgiving."
