224. And make not Allah the target of your oaths [533], that you take an oath for not doing good, nor for fearing [534] Allah, nor for making peace among people. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

225. Allah does not impose accountability [535] upon you for what is unintentional [536] in your oaths. Yes, but He will take you to task for the oaths which are intended by your hearts. And surely, Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Forbearing.

53. And they have sworn by Allah with utmost strength in their oaths that if you were to command them, they would certainly march forth in Allah's cause [138]. Say, "Do not swear; obedience is required; indeed, Allah is aware of what you do" [139].

94. And do not make your oaths as unfounded excuses [214] amongst yourselves, lest any foot may slip [215] after being firm, and you have to taste evil [216] because you used to move away from the path of Allah. And for you, there is a great torment [217].

10. Surely, allegiance to those you indeed swear, swear allegiance to Allah. The Hand of Allah [23] is above their hands. But whoso breaks his oath, he breaks it his own [24] loss, and whoso fulfill the promise which he had made with Allah, then Allah shall soon give him a great reward (25).

If they do so, they are surely among the wrongdoers.

89. Allah does not hold you accountable for oaths taken by misunderstanding [245], but He will hold you responsible for oaths which you have made binding [246]. Then, the penalty for breaking such oaths is the feeding of ten needy people with the average food with which you feed your families, or clothing them, or freeing a slave. And whoever does not find [the means] — then a fast of three days [247]. This is the alternative penalty for your oaths when you have sworn. And guard your oaths [248]. Thus, Allah explains His signs to you so that you may be grateful.

16. They make their oaths to serve as a cover, so they turn [58] away from the path of Allah. Therefore, they shall have a humiliating punishment [59].

When believing women [45] come to you for taking an oath [46] of allegiance at your hands, that they shall not associate [47] anything with Allah, and that they will neither steal, nor commit adultery, nor will they kill [48] their children, nor bring a scandal [49] which they have forged [50] between their hands and feet (i.e., carrying it in their womb), and will not disobey [51] in what is right, then accept their allegiance, and ask forgiveness [52] for them from Allah. Undoubtedly, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful [53].

2. They have taken their oaths as a shield [5] and thus turn others away [6] from Allah’s path. Surely evil is what they do [7].
