3. We recite to you the true news of Musa and Firawn [3] (pharaoh) for those who believe [4].

4. Indeed, Firawn had got control of the earth [5] and made its people his subordinates, he sought to weaken a group [6] of them, slay their sons [7], and let their women live [8]. Indeed, he was a mischief-maker.

5. And We desired that We should be gracious [9] to those weakened and make them leaders [10] and should make them the inheritors of their country and wealth [11].

6. And We should establish them in the earth [12] and show to Firawn and Haman and their armies the same, which they fear, from them [13].

7. And We inspired [14] the mother of Musa, "Suckle him [15], and when you fear for him [16], cast him into the river and do not fear [17] nor grieve; indeed, We shall return him to you and make him one of the Messengers [18]."

8. Then the family [18] of Firawn picked him up so that he may become their enemy and a source of grief [19]. Indeed, Firawn and Haman and their armies were wrongdoers [20].

9. And the wife of Firawn [20] said, "This child is a comfort to me and to you [21]. Do not slay him; perhaps he may benefit us [22] or we may adopt him as a son [23]." And they were unaware.

10. And the heart of the mother of Musa became impatient [24] the next morning. Surely, she was near to disclosing [25] his condition, if We had not strengthened her heart [26] so that she might remain believing in Our promise.

11. And his mother said to his sister[27], follow him, then she remained observing from afar, and they were not aware. [28]

12. And We had already forbidden all wet nurses [29] to him. Then she said, 'Shall I tell you of a household who can care for this child [30] of yours, and they will be sincere in their duty?'

13. Then We returned him to his mother [31] that she might be comforted and not grieve, and that she might know that the promise of Allah is true [32], but most of people do not know. [33]

14. And when he reached his mature age and attained full strength, We bestowed upon him wisdom and knowledge [34]. And thus We reward those who do good [35].

15. And he entered the city [36] at a time when the people were unaware, and found there two men fighting [37]; one was from his own people, and the other was from his enemies. The one who was from his own people called for help [38] against the one from his enemies. Then Musa struck him [39] and killed him [40]. He said, 'This is of Satan’s doing [41]; indeed, he is an enemy, a clear misleader [42].'

16. He said, 'O my Lord, I have wronged my soul, [43] so forgive me,' and He forgave him. Indeed, He is the Forgiving, the Merciful. [44]

17. He said, 'O my Lord, because You have blessed me, I will never be a supporter of the criminals.' [45]

18. He was in the city the next morning, fearful and watching anxiously [46]. When he saw that the man who had sought his help the day before was now calling for help [47], Musa said to him, 'Indeed, you are a manifestly misguided man [48].

19. Then when Musa intended to seize the one who was an enemy to both [49], the man said, 'O Musa, do you intend to kill me as you killed a person yesterday? You only intend to be a tyrant in the land and do not wish to be among those who set things right [50].'

20. And a man came running from the farthest part of the city [51]. He said, 'O Musa, indeed, the leaders are conspiring against you to kill you. So, leave [52]; I am advising you sincerely.'

21. Then he left the city, fearful [53] and anxiously awaiting what would happen next. He said, “O my Lord, save me from the oppressive people [54].”

22. And when he directed himself towards Midian, [55] he said, "Perhaps my Lord will guide me to the right path." [56]
