25. Certainly, Allah did help [55] you at many places and on the day of the battle of Hunain, when you had boasted of your multitude of soldiers, but it availed you nothing, and the land, being so vast, became straitened [56] to you. Then you turned your backs, retreating [57].

26. Then Allah sent down His Tranquility upon His Messenger and upon the Muslims [58]. And He sent down forces that you did not see [59], and He chastised the infidels. And that is the punishment for the infidels.

27. Thereafter Allah will accept the repentance of those whom He pleases [60]. And Allah is Most Forgiving, Merciful.

28. O believers! Know that the polytheists are altogether unclean [61]. Then let them not approach [62] the Sacred Mosque after this year. And if you fear poverty, then soon Allah shall enrich you with His bounty, if He pleases [63]. Verily, Allah is All-Knowing, Wise [64].

29. Fight those who do not believe in Allah and the Last Day [65], and do not forbid what Allah and His Messenger [66] have made lawful, and do not adhere to the true faith [67], among those who were given the Book [68], until they pay the required tax with their own hands, being subdued [69].

30. And the Jews said, "Uzair [71] is the son of Allah," and the Christians said, "Messiah [Isa] is the son of Allah." These are their claims with their mouths [72]. They imitate the statements of those who disbelieved before them [73]. May Allah curse them [74]. How are they deluded?

31.They have taken their priests and monks as gods besides Allah [75], and also the Messiah, son of Maryam [76], while they were commanded to worship none but One God. None is worthy of worship except Him [77]. Exalted is He above what they associate with Him [78].

32. They wish to extinguish the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah will not allow anything except the perfection of His light, even though the disbelievers may dislike it [79].

34. O believers! Many of the priests and the monks [84] devour [85] the wealth of the people wrongfully and bar them from the Path of Allah. And those who hoard [86] gold and silver and do not spend it in the Path of Allah, give them the good news of a painful punishment.

36. Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve [90], as recorded in the Book of Allah [91], from the day He created the heavens and the earth. Four of these months are sacred [92]. This is the right religion. So do not wrong [93] yourselves within these months. And fight the polytheists altogether, just as they fight you altogether [94]. And know that Allah is with the pious [95].

37. Surely, their postponement of the sacred months is nothing but an increase in disbelief [96], by which those who disbelieve are led astray [97]. They make it lawful one year [98], and forbid it in another [99], to adjust the count of the months that Allah has made sacred [100], thus permitting what Allah has forbidden. Their evil deeds have been made attractive [101] to them. And Allah does not guide the disbelieving people [102].

39. If you do not go forth, He will punish you with a painful punishment [106] and will replace you with another people [107]. You will not harm Him in any way. And Allah has power over all things.

40. If you do not help him, then indeed Allah has already helped him when those who disbelieved drove him out, the second of two [109], when they were in the Cave [110]. When he said to his companion [112]: "Do not grieve; indeed, Allah is with us" [114]. Then Allah sent down His tranquility upon him and supported him with forces you did not see [116], and made the word of those who disbelieved the lowest [117]. And the word of Allah is the highest [118]. And Allah is Mighty, Wise.

41. March forth, whether lightly or heavily armed [119], and strive in the way of Allah[120] with your wealth and your lives. That is better for you, if you only knew.

42. If there had been a near gain or an average journey [121], they would have certainly followed you. But the hardship of the journey seemed too long for them. They will swear [124] by Allah that if they had been able to, they would have certainly gone with you. They bring ruin upon themselves [125], and Allah knows that they are indeed liars.

43. Allah forgives you for permitting them [126] to remain behind until it becomes clear to you who spoke the truth [127] and you knew the liars [128].

44. Those who believe in Allah and the Last Day [129] do not ask your permission to strive [130] with their wealth and their lives. And Allah is All-Knowing of the pious.

45. Only those who do not believe [130] in Allah and the Last Day ask you for exemption, and their hearts are in doubt [131]. Thus, they waver in their doubts.

46. Had they wished to go forth, they would have certainly made some preparation [132] for it. But Allah disliked their rising, so He made them lethargic. And it was said to them: "Sit with those who sit" [133].

47. If they would have come out along with you, they would have aided [135] you nothing except corruption and would have run to and from in your midst, seeking to cause sedition among you by their spies [136]. And Allah knows well the unjust.
